My son Tracy is now 17 and has played baseball, soccer and football starting at age 4. Our family has seen a variety of leagues, teams and associations. There is no more important element than the coaches and the leadership of the associations.
Athletics are so important for the growth of a young person, not only for the physical benefits of exercise but for the confidence building, work ethic exposure, enthusiasm and lessons of winning and losing. As a youth, high school and college football player, I am the beneficiary of the great lessons that football can provide.
Having a quality framework for youth sports to operate within is essential to the success of all the teams, players, coaches and parents that play within the structure. When things are unorganized or led by those who don’t have the children’s best interests in mind, everyone suffers. This tender balance can affect whether or not some youth players choose to continue to play their respective sport.
I discovered USA Football this week and can easily say they are a key element to providing a quality framework for youth football coaching and officiating. The tagline, “Play Football it’s more than a game.”, immediately links the sport to the lessons of life. Their web site quickly portrays their brand as a robust resource for the development of coaches and officials. Diving deeper into the details of their site and their mission, the organization is fully committed to their sport.
It’s refreshing to see the strength behind USA Football. An example of this strength is the US National Team that is led by a core of quality coaches known for their enthusiasm, fundamentals and hard work ethic they teach. This year’s national coach is Chuck Kyle from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, OH. Ironically, Kyle is the coach of a teammate of mine at the University of Virginia.
Football remains America’s sport and it is very heartening to see the programs and resources USA Football provides will help ensure youth football will have a strong foundation for the future.

Well said. Thanks for introducing me to USA Football.
